North Yorkshire breeders, John Wilson and Janet Dunning, came out on top to sell the female champion and lead priced lot at 7200gns at a Beef Shorthorn show and sale at Carlisle.
The couple, who own the Runleymill herd from Settle, triumphed with Runleymill Miss Ramsden Red, a two-year-old polled roan heifer by Chapelton Dauphin, bred from the Alvie Galahad-sired Runleymill Miss Ramsden. She sold five weeks in calf to Millerston Milkybar Kid, to Mark and Judith Robinson, Kendal.
Bulls peaked at 4000gns twice – for J and J Green's Wrangham Neptune and Geoff Riby's Stonehills Nijinsky, from Colpy, Insch, Aberdeenshire, and Low Stonehills, Fraisthorpe, Bridlington, respectively.
By the end of the day, 10 bulls averaged £3370.50 and 44 heifers at £2392.33.
