A new centre record price of 7200gns was achieved at a working sheep dog sale at Bentham, when Co Durham handler, Jean Howes sold the two-year-old bitch, Jess.

Jess, which is by DJ Rees’ Cap and out of R Shaw’s Bet, was knocked down an undisclosed buyer from Kirkby Stephen.

The sale also saw and new high for a pup when a 13-week-old red and white dog from Tony Birkett realised 3250gns. It is by Kevin Evans' Red Spot and out of Mr Birkett's home-bred bitch Ruby. It sold to a buyer from York.

Outwith the top two sellers, another sold for more than 3000gns with 12 making in excess of 2000gns.

The sale of 34 broken and unbroken dogs and four pups saw a 71% clearance with the former averaging £2271.15 and the latter at £1352.40.
