Limousin cross bullocks led this week's Harrison and Hetherington's store cattle sale when achieving £1840 on two occasions both coming from Messrs Grice, Newtown.

Heifers peaked at £1570 for a Charolais cross from Messrs Dobson, West End, Allonby.

An Aberdeen-Angus cross cow and calf from Alan Hague, Mill Street, Whitehaven, realised £1320.

A much plainer show of weaned cattle sold to £1260 for a Limousin bull from Messrs Graham, Orchard Farm, Hawick. More of the same breed led the steers and heifers at £970 and £900 both coming from Middle Brownrigg.

The firm also held their weekly sale of calves where Charolais from Messrs Crozier, Raggetsyke, led all sections achieving £640 for a bull and £560 for a heifer.

Dingwall

The champion, a Limousin cross heifer, from Firm of J Munro, Invercharron Mains, went on to secure the top price of £2050 when being knocked down to Blair Duffton at Dingall and Highland Marts' anniversary show and sale.

The Judge, E Walton, Low Hail, Hurworth, found her reserve in a British Blue bullock from A Easton 1 Tannachy Road, Portgordon, which went on to realise £1700.

Bullocks (779) averaged 255.1p per kg, with heifers (610) cashing in at 242.1p.

Bullocks (235) and heifers (227) averaged 237.15p per kg and 231.72p respectively at United Auctions' weekly store cattle sale.

British Blue crosses from Craigend, led the pence per kg sections at 274.90p for a 502kg bullock and to 269.1p for a 446kg heifer.

A 662kg Aberdeen-Angus cross bullock secured £1700 for Towncroft, and to £1395 for a 633kg Simmental cross heifer from The Mains.

Young bulls (16) sold to 234.30p and £1160 for a Charolais cross from Logie.

The opening sale of 7044 store lambs witnessed a top call of £108 for Texels from Ashfield and Nether Monynut, with the breed averaging £88.07 (+£0.38 on the year).

Beltex crosses cashed in at £86.78 (+£0.61), with Suffolk crosses and Cheviots hitting £88.82 (+£1.57) and £76.84 (+£0.84) respectively. Mules balanced out at £80.30 (-£0.80).

Bullocks averaged 228.27p, with heifers balancing out at 229.87p.

A pair of 529kg Limousin crosses from Corramore, led the heifers at £1450 and 274.1p, to cash in at 228.5p.

A larger show of 88 calves and stirks topped at £1000 for a pen of Black and White bullocks from GI and AM Livingston, Acholter.

Among the calves trade peaked at £455 for a Limousin cross bull from Messrs Harper, Kaimhill, with heifers realising £340 on two occasions firstly for a British Blue cross from A Brown and Sons, Kirkhill, and again for an Aberdeen-Angus cross from Charles Service and Co, Moorpark.

Simmentals led the bullocks at 250p for a pen from J Cameron, Balbuthie, Fife, and to £1330 for more of the same from R Nelson, Blairmains, Culross.

Heifers hit 253p for Limousins from C Dick, Taylorton, Stirling, and to £1090 for a Simmental from G Aitken, Cowdens, Dunduff.

A smaller show of 116 store cattle was forward this week for Hexham and Northern Marts which achieved an average of £1249.15.

Aberdeen-Angus cross heifers led the trade at £1660 for JL and M Wilkinson and Son, Bollihope Shield, with steers peaking at £1520 for more of the same from Richard and Lance Green, Heckley High House, Alnwick.

An overall average of £89.43 was achieved for the 898 store lambs forward, with a top price of £136 paid for Texel crosses from A and CL Bell, Woodhall.

Three steers sold for a joint top price of £1360, firstly for two Herefords from DR Smith, East Roughlea, and matching that price was a Limousin from ML Tallentire, South Softley, Butterknowle.

Heifers attained £1180 for a Charolais from E Parsons, Newstead.

Breeding sheep achieved a 100% clearance rate, selling to £265 for gimmers from E Grieves, Oakdene and CA and JG Skidmore, Needless Hall.

Leading the store lamb trade at £102.50 for Texels from LD Laws of High Village.
