What a busy week it has been! Sheep sales at every market and they’re all seeing a better trade than many would have anticipated at the start of the season.

We’ve got the best reports and pictures of ewe lamb, gimmer, ewe, and tup sales from all the various markets in Scotland and the north of England, in this week’s issue.

You can check out the record-priced North Country Cheviot at Quoybrae from Bardnaclavan which made £11,000, with the same home producing a centre high amongst the females at £2000. And, we’ve got a photograph of the 7000gns centre record priced Texel from Skipton, along with all show winners from a cracking sale of Border Leicesters at Lanark which attracted several new and existing breeders.

While the sheep industry appears to be keeping its head above water, the first signs of the wheels coming off the cart are appearing in the cattle sector with official figures from the British Cattle Movement Services (BCMS) revealing future breeding female numbers are down 2%.

Read all about it, along with much, much more, including a report from UK Dairy Day; Lanarkshire Calf Show; and a feature on how the Duncans from Achdregnie, Glenlivet are reaping the benefits of south and north-type Blackface sheep, in today’s Scottish Farmer.
