A Cowal-bred ewe from the Usk Vale flock of Will Davies and Paul Rowlands, sold for the top price of 45,000gns at a joint dispersal sale of pedigree Texels and Beltex at Borderway Mart, Carlisle.

The dispersal of the Procters, Tatham Hall and Usk Vale flocks, saw the latter produce the top five highest prices, with the sale leader from the Welsh business partners being a 2021-born ET ewe sired by the 65,000gns Hexel Django. The ewe was bred from a Cowal ewe by Knap Alligator. From the Springwell female line that is breeding well at Knap and Ettrick, she sold with embryos collected from her to Alan and Sarah Powell of Monnow Hill Texels, Ross on Wye, Herefordshire.

The same buyers went to 10,000gns for the first flush ewe from Usk Vale, a 2019-born Hexel-bred ewe. Full sister to Hexel Born To Be Wild, she is sired by Plasucha All Star and has also had embryos collected.

John Forsyth, Glenside, Maybole, bought the lead priced ewe lamb at 12,000gns from Usk Vale. She is a daughter of Glenside Forever and bred from a Clarks ewe by Procters Chumba Wumba.

Two other Usk Vale females sold at 10,000gns to include a second ewe lamb by Glenside Forever, purchased by Northern Ireland breeder, Jonny Cubitt, Ballymoney. Her dam is another Cowal ewe by Hexel Django.

The reserve champion at the Royal Welsh Show in 2022, a 2021-born Knock-bred ewe matched that 10,000gns bid when selling to Charlie Boden of the Sportmans flock from Stockport. Her pedigree features Knock Dalwhinnie and a Knock-bred ewe by Allanfauld Am The Man.

Sportmans also bought the lead priced lot from Procters Farm at 9000gns. This was Procters Hayley ET, a Beltex gimmer by Faughhill Francisco that was female champion and reserve overall at the Penrith Progeny Show. She sold due to Collessie Jacobite.
