Aberdeenshire-based AJR Farms' has come up trumps to sell another pedigree Charolais bull for a five-figure price, with Newlogie Unique selling privately for £15,000.

The 40-cow herd from Ellon, managed by Andrew Reid, sold to the bull to Welsh breeders Wil Owen and Teresa Wilson of the Deunawd herd, Wales, who were most impressed by Unique after seeing him in November.

"After having the honour of judging the Charolais at the Stars of the Future Show, in Stirling last year, we are delighted to be able to purchase the junior Charolais champion and inter-breed junior, Newlogie Unique," said Mr Owen.

"We hope that he will be a great addition to our herd with new bloodlines from two great breeding lines and an exceptional herd of Charolais cows at Newlogie."

Those 'great breeding lines' include the dam, Newlogie Papillon ET – the first daughter of the French-bred bull, Newlogie Nobel purchased as a 10-month-old calf in 2017 for €17,500.

Nobel has recently produced sons that sold privately to £13,000 to the Caylers Charolais herd and two sons at the Stirling Bull Sales made 10,000gns and 10,500gns.

Newlogie Unique’s grand-mother was the first female purchased in France in 2017, Newlogie Naya – a daughter of the 2018 Moulins champion, Jasette.

All of the breeding on Unique’s dams side has been sourced through Simon Perrot of Simon Genetic.

Newlogie Unique's sire is the former Great Yorkshire and Royal Highland inter-breed champion bull, Maerdy Morwr, bought privately for £25,000 from Esmor Evans. Another top breeder, Morwr has sired bulls to £12,000 and £10,000 for the 40-cow Newlogie Charolais herd.
