Cleland 1 Cheerful 7 topped the dispersal of Hungerford-based AE Nesbitt Farms’ Hereford herd at 6200gns, when selling to Ryan Coates, Newton Harcourt, Leics.

The sale at Shrewsbury, which incorporated Halls’ spring Hereford day, saw the nine-year-old cow, by Bromley 1 Midas, a Dorepoll 1 Crown Royal son top the trade. Cheerful is out of a home-bred cow and sold with her fifth calf at foot, a heifer by Havenfield 1 Robin Hood.

At 5800gns, Cleland 1 Oyster Gem 51 from the same home sold to N Hooper, Leigh Sinton, Worcestershire. By Solpoll 1 KitKat, a son of Panmure 1 Henry, this three-year-old sold with her first calf, another heifer by Robin Hood.

Mr Hooper also bought the similarly aged Cleland 1 Cheerful 14 and her first calf, Cleland 1 Cheerful 17 for 4700gns. She is by Cleland 1 Nelson – the sire of both the grand female and male champions at the 2021 National Poll Show.

Outwith the Clelland dispersal, trade peaked at 4400gns for Dendor 1 Voodoo from DE, ED and AL Jones, Caersws, Powys. The lead priced male, this 19-month-old is by Dendor 1 Nairobi, and went home with JL Forsey, Broadoak, Dorset.
