A maximum pointed three-year-old with show potential topped the on-farm Richaven Seeing is Believing Holstein sale when selling for 16,000gns.

Richard and Dawn Bown and family's sale at Northfield Farm, Worcester, was topped by Richaven Byway Kay ET VG89 SP. A Byway daughter, she is a result of a flush from the Richaven Bolton Kay Ex91 SP, which is a granddaughter of one of the family's all-time favourite cows, Flettdale Stardust Kay which classified Excellent 96 and produced a lifetime yield of more than 130t.

Byway Kay produced just shy of 11,000kg as a heifer at 4.25%BF and 3.30%P and having calved her second in March is now giving 50kg per day. She sold sexed early May, to Walnutlawn Sidekick, to Mike Potter buying for the Libertyview herd from Standish, Gloucestershire.

The Richaven herd which was established almost 30 years ago and is renowned for its All-Britain winners also received 4500gns for the catalogue cover girl, Richaven Sidekick Adrienne. This 15-month-old heifer by Walnutlawn Sidekick, is a daughter of the Ex92-2E SP LP50 cow, Richaven Wind Adrienne 3 ET which is a maternal sister to the great show cow, Richaven Goldwyn Adrienne Ex96-5E that was grand champion and reserve Supercow at AgriScot 2013. Walton Farms, Leicestershire were the final bidders on this youngster bred from three dams averaging almost 94 points and all with massive lifetime yields.

Another herd favourite that helped establish the Richaven herd was Hollywell Starbuck Rosie Ex94 which produced more than 100t of milk and bred several noted daughters. Richaven Wavelength Rosie, a seven-month-old heifer, was one of those descendants and made 4000gns to JR Morse of the Cowindale herd, Carmarthen. She is by Wisselview Wavelength and bred from the best milking heifer in the herd, a VG87 Sidekick that won her class at the National Judging Conference earlier this year.

The six-month-old calf, Richaven Victor Squaw 4, which boasts all the big names in her pedigree – Richaven Raider Squaw Ex97, Richaven Goldwyn Squaw Ex96 and Richaven Sanchez Squaw Ex95, made 3200gns Mr Leahy, Rep of Ireland. Her sire is Legend-Maker Victor.

Just behind on 3000gns were Richaven Wavelength Adrienne, a nine-month-old heifer and another by Wavelength with her fourth dam being the top show cow, Richaven Goldwyn Adrienne Ex96. She was purchased by AD and RM Thomas of the Kimcote herd, Lutterworth, Leicestershire.
