Beef breeding cattle met a flying trade at Thainstone on Wednesday selling to a new market high of £8000 and £7800 for two cow and calf outfits from Hugh Barclay's dispersal from Seafield, Nairn.
Such was the demand that Mr Barclay sold 13 cow and calf outfits to average £6170, with his top two lots both selling to brothers William and David Moir, of Moir Livestock, Fraserburgh.
Heifers with calves at foot also met a buoyant demand selling to £5250, with outfit averages up £300 on the year
Leading the trade was a British Blue cow with Limousin bull calf, while a Limousin cross cow with Limousin bull calf made £7800. Mr Barclay also topped the cow with heifer calf section, selling a Limousin cross with a Limousin cross calf at £7300.
Simmentals also proved popular, with a Simmental cross with Limousin heifer calf at foot from Brian McIntosh, Mains of Tarryblake, Rothiemay leading the heifer outfits at £5250.
Heifers with bull calves reached £5050 on three occasions - for two Simmental cross heifers with Limousin cross calf at foot from Auchtygall, Peterhead and for a Simmental cross with Limousin cross calf again from Mains of Tarryblake.
A small but select entry of breeding bulls reached £6200 for a six-year-old Charolais from Tillenturk, Torphins.
