The closure of Newton Rigg College, earlier this year and subsequent sale of Sewborwens Farm, ultimately ended with the dispersal of the herd at Borderway Mart, Carlisle, which saw a top price of 7000gns.

Sale leader was the six-year-old fourth calver, Newtonrigg Doorman Tilly Ex90, purchased by Fluscopike Farms near Penrith. Bred from 12 generations of Ex or VG females, she is a grand-daughter of the Ex91-3E LP60 cow, Tallent Shottle Lilly and sired by Val-Bisson Doorman. She calved in June, with her heifer calf, Newtonrigg Mick Tilly 2, by Jagger Mick, selling for 1500gns.

Selling down to Derbyshire, with Messrs Shirt, Monkwood, Dronfield, buying for the Katal herd, was Newtonrigg Lambda Ambrosia, a 10-month-old heifer by Delta Lambda. She is bred from the show winning calf, Logan Flagship KcBB VG87-3yr which in turn goes back to the Ex92 SP LP60 12* cow, Logan Numero Uno Amprosia. Her fifth dam was the 27,000gns, Smiddiehill Toystory Ambrosia sold at the Smiddiehill Sale.

Milking heifers were topped at 3000gns by Lillyhall Chief Elegant which joins the herd of Messrs Brown, Catrig, in Ayrshire. Bought at 2019 Black and White Sale, as a young calf and classified Good Plus 80 earlier in her lactation, she is bred from 10 generations of Ex classified cows, with her dam Lambroda Bookem Elegant VG87 SP, being a daughter of the Ex94-4E SP LP70 cow, Lambroda Guthrie Numero Uno. Her April born heifer calf by Rubels Red made 1100gns.

The Forsyths from Baltier, Whithorn, bought two of the top lots going to 2500gns for the fresh heifer, Newtonrigg Kipling Barb GP83, bred from the GP81 Warnelview Fever Barb 2 and sired by De Su Kipling.

They also went to 2400gns for the in-calf heifer, Newtonrigg Silver Chancery, by Seagull-Bay Silver and bred from the VG85-2yr SP cow, Newtonrigg Mesdoor Chancery. She changed hands due soon to Lightning Total.

Selling for 2500gns was Newtonrigg Silver Primrose VG87, a June-calved heifer by Seagul-Bay Silver, out of a home-bred VG88 SP cow. The buyers were Messrs Talbot and Co, Ribchester, Preston who also went to 2400gns for the in-calf heifer, Newtonrigg Rubicon Bevel, an EDG Rubicon daughter due soon to an Aberdeen-Angus bull.

Matching that 2400gns bid, Messrs Donald, The Ling, Welton, Carlisle, bought the late July calved heifer, Newtonrigg Sassafras Maria GP81, by ABS Sassafras.
