Dingwall and Highland Marts sold 1271 weaned calves at their second district ballot show and sale, where the judge Brodie Keir, Berrybrae found his champion in an eight-month-old 280kg Limousin cross from J Munro and Sons, Invercharron, which later sold for £940.

Reserve went to a six-month-old 290kg Limousin cross also from Invercharron, which went under the hammer for £940.

Out with the show, bullocks levelled at 256.5p having sold to 335.7p for a 280kg Limousin cross from Invercharron, or to £1220 for a 466kg Charolais cross from Milton Farm, Aberarder.

Heifers balanced out at 245.1p having sold to 440.7p and £1300 for a 295kg British Blue from 189 Fleucharry, Dornoch or £1300 again for a 375kg Limousin cross from Drummuie, Golspie.

Young bulls reached 292.6p for a 270kg Limousin cross from Invercharron and £1220 for a 590kg Aberdeen Angus cross from Clashinglash, Achue, to cash in at 245.7p, while OTM's sold to 178.9p and £1350 for a 915kg Charolais cross from Clashinglash, Achue.

The 5761 store lambs that were also sold averaged £71.44 with prices peaking at £124 for a pen of Texel crosses from Garnish Farm, Aviemore.

All classes of cattle sold well at Dingwall and Highland Marts' sale of 258 stores, where bullocks averaged 226.9p having sold to 282.9p for a 205kg Limousin cross from Achateny, Acharacle and to £1200 for a 705kg Hereford cross from Mungosdail, Argyll.

Heifers levelled at 222.1p per kg and peaked at 305.9p for a 255 Simmental cross from Sandamhor farming, Isle of Eigg and £860 for a 420kg Limousin cross from Gorten, Arisaig, while breeding cattle sold to £900 for a Simmental cross in calf heifer from Mucomir Farm.

A top price of 174.8p was attained in the OTM's for a 595kg Beef Shorthorn Cross from Breakachy Farm, Laggan or to £1040 for 860kg Aberdeen Angus from Toriri, Corpach.

The firm also sold 1172 store lambs to £72 for a pen of crosses from Tigh Seonaid, Onich, while feeding sheep achieved a top price of £80 for a pen of cheviot gimmers from Ardnamurchan Estates.

At the show and sale of Shetland and West Highland suckled calves, the championship was awarded to R MacDonald, 12 Hougharry, The Glebe for a 380kg Limousin cross which later realised £1050 selling back to the judge, Doug Rose, Taylors Park Farm, St Cyrus.

The firm also sold 4980 store and breeding sheep, where lambs sold to average £83.58 having reached a top price of £116 for Continentals from Bogiefeulach, Tornaveen.

Shetland consigned store lambs attained £104 for Texels from Hillview, Quendale, while Orkney lambs witnessed prices peak to £100 for Suffolks form Quoybelloch, Deerness and again for Texels from Trondheim, Rendall.

The second sale of Blackface wedder lambs in conjunction with Livestock Marketing, averaged £60.54 and was topped at £80 from Cronberry.

The firm's sale of 467 spring-born suckled calves, saw judge W Gray, Balquharrage, award the championship to a 332kg British Blue bullock from Hartside Farms which later sold for £1360 or 409.6p per kg to the judge.

Reserve was a 424kg British Blue heifer from Messrs Comrie, Stonebyres, which sold for £1220.

Heifers peaked at £1560 and 527p for a 296kg Limousin from High Crewburn, to level at 242.64p.

A top price of 313p was achieved in the heifers for a pen of Charolais from Glenside Farms, Stirling and to £1180 for a pen of Charolais from J McAdam, Callendoune, Helensburgh, to average 228p, while Black and whites sold to 182p from AHS Drummond, Glenside, Stranraer, or £1090 from D McKenzie, Ardgate, Gartocharn.

Dingwall and Highland Marts sold 1271 weaned calves at their second annual district ballot show and sale, where judge for the day, Brodie Keir, Berrybrae found his champion in am eight-month-old 280kg Limousin cross from J Munro and Sons, Invercharron, which later sold for £940.

Reserve honours went to a six-month-old 290kg Limousin cross also from J Munro and Sons, Invercharron, which went under the hammer for £940.

Out with the show, bullocks levelled at 256.5p having sold to 335.7p for a 280kg Limousin cross from Invercharron, Ardgay or to £1220 for a 466kg Charolais cross from Milton Farm, Aberarder.

On the flip side, heifers balanced out at 245.1p and attained 440.7p and £1300 for a 295kg British Blue from 189 Fleucharry, Dornoch or £1300 again for a 375kg Limousin cross from Drummuie, Golspie.

Among the heifers, trade levelled at 222.1p per kg and peaked at 305.9p for a 255 Simmental cross from Sandamhor farming, Isle of Eigg and £860 for a 420kg Limousin cross from Gorten, Arisaig, while breeding cattle sold to £900 for a Simmental cross heifer in-calf from Mucomir Farm.

A top price of 174.8p was attained in the OTM's for a 595kg Beef Shorthorn Cross from Breakachy Farm, Laggan or to £1040 for 860kg Aberdeen Angus from Toriri, Corpach.

Amongst the Aberdeen-Angus section of the sale, bullocks attained a top of 245.8p for a 358kg from Strath Farm, Watten and £1450 for a 650kg from North House, Setter, to average 222.4p, while heifers cashed in at 210.8p and peaked at 234.2p for a pen of three 316kg from Easter Galcantray, Cawdor or £1255 for a pair of 552kg from Cairntack Farm, Belhelvie.

A small show of 165 store cattle were forward at Lawrie and Symington's sale, held last Saturday, where bullocks sold to a top of £1200 on two occasions, firstly for a 710kg Beef Shorthorn from A and F Skene, Cairncross and secondly for a 602kg Simmental cross from WL Howcroft, Herdhillmuir or 291p for a pen of five 378kg Limousin crosses from D and J Guthrie, Whitehills to average 243p.

On the flip side, heifers attained £1310 for a 642 kg British Blue cross from WL Howcroft, Herdhillmuir or to 258p for a pen of five 399kg Limousin crosses from DM Keay and Sons Ltd, East Balloch, to cash in at 231p.

Feeding cows sold to £910 and £800 from A and F Skene, Cairncross.

Lanark

Lawrie and Symington held their sale of 2826 store lambs, where strong demand led to a top price of £105 paid for Suffolk crosses from Fairnley.

Included in the sale was the second special sale of Blackface wedder lambs in conjunction with Livestock Marketing, where the sale averaged £60.54 and topped at £80 from Cronberry.

The firm also sold 467 spring born suckled calves at their annual show and sale, where judge W Gray, Balquharrage, awarded the championship to a 332kg British Blue bullock from Hartside Farms which later sold for £1360 and 409.6p back to the judge to top the bullock section.

Reserve honours went to a 424kg British Blue heifer consigned by Messrs Comrie, Stonebyres, which sold for £1220.

Heifers peaked at £1560 and 527p for a 296kg Limousin from High Crewburn, to level at 242.64p.

Caledonian Marts' fortnightly sale of 487 store cattle witnessed the organic section top at £1250 for a Beef Shorthorn bullock from J and D Roberts, Farmton, Auchterarder, while organic heifers sold to £1090 for a pen of Limousins again from the same home.

Store bullocks cashed in at 226p having peaked at 288p for a pen of Limousin and Charolais from C Dick, Taylorton, Stirling and from J and D Mitchell, Offers, Gargunnock or to £1270 for a pen of Aberdeen-Angus from W and C Pickard, Ormiston, Newburgh.

A top price of 313p was achieved in the heifers for a pen of Charolais from Glenside Farms, Stirling and to £1180 for a pen of Charolais from J McAdam, Callendoune, Helensburgh, to average 228p, while Black and whites sold to 182p from AHS Drummond, Glenside, Stranraer, or £1090 from D McKenzie, Ardgate, Gartocharn.

The firm also sold 1780 store sheep, where top price of the day went to J and M Graham, Craigluscar for a pen of Texel crosses at £96.

Feeding ewes attained to a top price of £75 for a pen of crosses from J McLaren, Murrayshall, Stirling.

Trade was a flyer at Dingwall and Highland Marts' sale of store cattle and breeding rams, where 261.9p was paid for a pair of 210kg Simmental crosses from 17/18 Borve, Skeabost, or to £1140 for a 620kg Limousin cross from 2 Tote, Skeabost.

Heifers sold to 237.8p for a 185kg Whitbred Shorthorn crosses from 1 Peinaha, Glenhinnisdale, and £790 for 510kg Limousin cross from South Cuidreach, Earlish, while breeding cattle attained £1300 for a Charolais heifer with a heifer calf at foot from Burnside, Achachork.

Among the OTM's, a top of 136.5pwas paid for a 520kg Simmental cross from South Cuidreach and to £1110 for 880kg Aberdeen Angus cross from Waternish Farms, Waternish.

The firm also sold 241 rams, where prices peaked at £1000 for a Blackface shearling from Braes, Portree.
