Gimmers produced the lead average of £123.11 (+£36.20 on the year), with others selling to £142 from Hallscaur Farming, Glenwhargen, £140, Dryhope and Laghead; £136 Kirkstead and £130, Bridgemark.

Draft ewes slipped by £7.30, to average £76.07, selling to £92 from Hallscaur Farming, Glenwhargen, with others to £90 £86 Kirkland and £82 Dryhope.

Top price amongst the Blackface ewe lambs at £71 came from Lagghead and £68, Hallscaur.

Tow Law

Some 5110 traditional ewe lambs were sold at Hexham and Northern Marts' sale on behalf of the Weardale branch of NEMSA which saw a new centre record of £450 paid for the champion pen from John, Steven and Andrew Reed, Lands Farm.

The reserve pen from WS Scott, Low Leam, realised £222.00, with the overall average up £23.28 on last year’s trade.

Breeding sheep sold to £190 and £170 for continental gimmers from Roundhillock at Lawrie and Symington's sale which included 1574 store sheep.

The show and sale of Blackface wedder lambs, judged David Moir, Cairness, was won by a pen from Rickarton Farms which sold for £80 per head with second and third placings presented to Rottal Estate Partnership and Pearsie Estate Co, Ltd, that made £70 and £66, respectively.

On Monday, some 181 rams were forward for the firm's multi-breed show and sale of rams, judged by Mark Simpson, Culfargie Estate.

His choice of champion Texel, a shearling ram from R McNee, Over Finlarg, topped the sale at £1500.

A Suffolk cross Beltex shearling ram from Messrs Buchan, Torrax, sold for a new centre high of £2000 at Dingwall and Highland Marts' multi-breed ram sale where no fewer than 53 rams sold at four-figure prices.

Judge Charlie McIntyre, Glenrinnes Farms, found his champion in a Texel ram lamb from J and H Chisholm, Wester Moy, which he later bought for £1000, while the reserve, a Bluefaced Leicester shearling ram from Raymond Baynes, Beldhu, made £1200 to Suisgill Estate.

Texel shearlings sold to £1600 from Veltigar, Orkney, with ram lambs to £1000 from Wester Moy, Urray, twice and lower Reiss Farms, Wick. A two-shear Texel also made £1000 for Bardnaclaven, Thurso.

Blue Texel shearlings sold to £800 from Smithy House, Thurso with a two-shear superceding that at £1300 from Messrs Cogle, Quoybrae.

Bluefaced Leicester shearlings were topped at £1200 from Beldhu, Croy and Nether Aucharnie, Forgue.

Upper Auchenlay, Dunblane, topped the Beltex and the Charollais shearlings at £1200 and £700 respectively.

North Essie, Strichen, sold the two lead priced Suffolk shearling rams at £1700 twice with ram lambs peaking at £550 from Drummuie, Golspie and Cheviots were topped at £1050 by entries from Castle of Mey Trust, Longoe Farm and Seafield View, Mey.

Lerwick

The first annual breeding sheep sale at Lerwick staged by Shetland Livestock Marketing Group in conjunction with Aberdeen and Northern Marts attracted an entry of 4540 ewes, a full ringside of buyers and no fewer than 34 registered online bidders resulting in prices not seen before at this centre.

Ewes sold to £370 for a Blue Texel from Vallenale, Cauldhame, with gimmers hitting £350 for more of same from Vallenale.

The following day, top draw lambs exceeded sellers’ expectations with averages well up on the year for the sale of 2435 ewe lambs.

Cheviot ewe lambs (1297) averaged £69.05 (+£9.24 on the year), with 576 Texels at £70.76 (+£11.54) and 381 Shetland ewe lambs levelled at £36.90 (+£2.43).

Blackface ewe lambs from Brough, Skeld topped the trade at £120.

Some 182 breeding rams forward for Harrison and Hetherington's sale saw a Beltex cross Texel shearling from LC and D Wearmouth, Parkside, Barnard Castle, top the trade at £1600.

Overall champion at the pre-sale show, he was knocked down to Thomas Brogden, Helbeck, Brough.

The whole sale average for aged, shearlings and ram lambs was £540.33 with a 92% clearance.
