Standing room only for the 50th Anniversary Simmental Spectacular sale at Dungannon Auction Mart, saw the female champion from David and Jonny Hazelton's Ranfurly herd top the trade at 5400gns.

Judge, Simmental Cattle Society president, Stewart Stronach, of the Islavale herd, found his female leader in Ranfurly Weikel 40 L10, an 18-month-old heifer by the Cleenagh Flasher son, Samark Superman. He is bred from the Raceview King daughter, Ranfurly Weikel 23 VG86 and sold for the top price to new breeder Patrick Fitzsimmons from Strangford, Co Down.

The reserve female from the same home sold for the second top price of 4900gns to Nigel Abraham, Monea, Enniskillen, Co Fermanagh. Ranfurly Weikel 39 L8, a 20-month-old entry by Curaheen Bandit, is bred from the Carnkern Titan daughter, Ranfurly Weikel 17 – a full sister to the 15,000gns Stirling, October 2015 champion, Ranfurly Formula One.

Ranfurly sold five heifers to average £3717.

The third prize heifer Cladymore Lovely ET, made 4600gns for the Reaney family from Mowhan, Co Armagh. This 18-month-old is by the twice former Balmoral Show champion, Dermotstown Delboy, and bred from the Borness Troy daughter, Cladymore Annabell. She joins the Drumsamney herd of Roger and Jonathan Henderson, Desertmartin, Co Londonderry.

Selling for 3600gns was the third prize Drumagarner Lee from Eamon McCloskey, Kilrea. January 2020-born, she is by Team Celtic, and bred from the Rabawn Flame-sired Drumagarner Indigo. Buyer was pedigree herd owner Chris Traynor, of the Kilmore herd, Armagh.

Andrew Clarke sold the first prize winning Breaghey Class K393 for 2900gns. This 13-month-old heifer, by Omorga Volvo, and bred from Breaghey Class I286 – reserve champion at the club’s 2018 Heifer Derby, was knocked down Francis Lively from Rathfriland.

A draft of heifers from Harry and John Moore’s Omorga herd was topped at 4700gns, with six averaging £3517.

Sale leader here was the 11-month-old Omorga Lorelle, a Curaheen Drifter daughter, out of the Dermotstown Delboy dam, Omorga Joy – maternal sister to Omorga Volvo. She joins Robin Boyd’s Slievenagh herd at Portglenone.

Next best at 4400gns was the similarly aged Omorga Lois, by Mullyknock Gallant, and bred from the Linde General daughter Jaegergard Lisette P – imported from Denmark. Buyer was David Cameron, owner of the Ballee herd based at Coleraine.

Bulls were topped at 2800gns for Garvagh veterinary surgeon Nevin Smith's first prize Edenbann Lionheart, a July 2020-born bull by Edenbann Emperor, a son of the 20,000gns Auchorachan Wizard. He sold to Martin Smyth from Castlerock.

A 10-month-old heifer topped the commercial section at £2750. Known as Miss Crumble, this cross-bred from Alan Burleigh, Co Fermanagh, sold to Michael McNally from Cookstown, County Tyrone.
