The first sale to disperse the Lanarkshire-based Greentowers Holstein herd – taking place as part of the Smith family's restructuring process – proved successful, averaging just shy of £1500 with a top price of 2100gns paid on three occasions.

The herd, which is currently averaging 9449kg, at 4.01% BF and 3.32%P with an average cell count of 127, saw the September 2018-born cow, Stardale Josuper Vaakje 2, the first to make 2100gns. Bred from 10 generations of Ex or VG-classified dams, being out of Stardale Dreamer Vaakje, this Uecker Supersire Josuper daughter sold to John Montgomery, Croy, Kilsyth.

The same home also went to 2000gns for the five-year-old, Darthogue MM Bluebell, by Morningview Marcelon Cri and out of Darthogue Gp Bluebell.

Matching the 2100gns top price was Greentowers Fantasmic Widgeon, purchased by Messrs Dockeray, Abbey Town, Wigton. This 2019-born heifer is by DE-SU Fantasmic, whilst the dam, Greentowers Boss Widgeon is by Lanarkian Boss.

John and James Graham, Burnbank, Blairdrummond, Stirling, also went to 2100gns for the September 2019-born heifer, Greentowers Achiever Roella, an ABS Achiever daughter out of Greentowers Bohemian Roella. She sold AI'd to Relough Clincher.

Selling for 2050gns was Greentowers Barber Bunty, purchased by Messrs Graham, Gretna. This March 2019-born heifer is the result of a mating between Annandale Barber and Greentowers Parade Bunty.

Greentowers Manifold Anastasia then made 2000gns. This 2017-born cow is by Mainstream Manifold and out of Lanarkian Ponder Anastasia. She sold to Messrs Winter, Wigton.

Messrs Morris, Burton, Wrexham, also went to 2000gns for the March 2019-born heifer, Greentowers Barber Joy, an Annandale Barber daughter, out of Greentowers Parade Joy.
