First time competitor, Gregor Milne, Kennieshillock, Llanbryde, took the young handlers competition by storm to win both the beef and supreme overall at the Royal Highland Show at Ingliston.

Mr Milne (14) first won the junior section of the beef competition and stood in front of the senior best to land the supreme beef young handler when parading the two-year-old Charolais heifer, Elgin Sunrise, a Maerdy Norseman-sired entry from the family farm in Morayshire. He was later presented the Dalchirla Trophy for the overall inter-breed young handler, when competing against another five finalists.

Judges, John and Kate Dykes, South Slipperfield, were most impressed by the standard of showmanship of all exhibitors forward for the inter-breed event which included the champion winning sheep, goat, dairy, Clydesdale and Shetland pony young handlers.

They found their reserve overall in the champion goat young handler, 14-year-old Cerys Southwood, Holemill Farmhouse, Kirkbuddo, Forfar. She was parading the British Toggenburg, Guilden Gypsum, a three-year-old by Guilden Eton, bred by Gordon Webster and Gordon Smith.
