Aldi has joined Morrisons in promoting British produce with their recently introduced ‘Best of British’ section online.

The announcement follows calls from MPs and farmers to do more in the way of promoting British produce.

Aldi has added a ‘Best of British’ page to their online grocery section, offering a range of essentials such as fruit, eggs, meat, and dairy produce.

Aldi currently operates as the UK’s fourth-largest supermarket and collaborates with an estimated 5,000 British suppliers.

Julie Ashfield, buying managing director at Aldi, stated: “Our ‘Best of British’ webpage aims to give our customers the chance to navigate British products more easily whilst supporting the thousands of local suppliers that we work with.

“We are proud to champion so many British suppliers and they are at the heart of our success, allowing us to offer our customers great British quality at the best possible prices.”

Morrisons previously made a similar move in December with their ‘British’ online section.

An open letter signed by over 120 MPs urged supermarkets to highlight UK-grown produce online.

Minette Batters, president of the NFU, hopes Aldi and Morrisons' actions will “pave the way for other supermarkets to follow suit”.

She emphasised, “86% of the public want to buy more British food, but it is often tricky to determine what products are produced in the UK and this simple change would help shoppers.”
