With a week to go until Scotland’s biggest outdoor event, excitement is rising for four fun-packed days of the best that Scottish agriculture and the rural sector has to offer.
The best of the country’s livestock will be on display, but alongside that there will be a treasure trove of sights and experiences for the whole family to enjoy as all roads lead to Ingliston for the much-loved Royal Highland Show.
Organised by the Royal Highland and Agricultural Society of Scotland (RHASS), the event is famous for getting bigger and better each year, so both regulars and first-time visitors are in for a treat.
For four days, the Ingliston showground transforms into a bustling mini-village – in fact, it becomes Scotland’s sixth-largest population hub during the event. With that in mind, a bit of planning goes a long way to help you make the most of the experience.

Crowds of up to 55,000 visitors per day are expected, alongside an incredible 6000 animals – from cows, sheep, and horses to alpacas, goats, and donkeys.
While the animals are a huge draw, food and drink are the heart of the show for many. Thousands flock to the Food Hall and Scotland’s Larder to sample an unrivalled showcase of the country’s best produce – a feast for both the eyes and the palate.
Explore a diverse range of homegrown delicacies from long-established and artisan producers alike, many of whom are on hand to share stories about their food’s provenance and their businesses.
From cheese and ice cream to charcuterie, seafood, baked goods, and confectionery – plus, of course, Scotch whisky, gin, Scotch Beef, Scotch Lamb, and Specially Selected Pork – there’s something for every taste.
Foodies can enjoy live tastings and cookery demonstrations throughout the show. And don’t miss a visit to the charming Honey Marquee in the Countryside Area – a sweet stop that’s sure to leave a lasting impression.
The Grand Parade is hugely popular, and the Grandstand fills up quickly in the afternoons of Saturday and Sunday. Prize-winning cattle can be seen gracefully wending their way across the Main Ring. If you don’t know your Belted Galloways from your Belgian Blues, then this is a very rare opportunity to see so many different breeds at one time.
The Food For Thought Conference and Cookery Theatre,meanwhile, will let your senses feast all things cuisine and drink!
Situated in the east of the showground, next to the Forge, you will be able watch some of the best chefs, food writers and producers from around the country prepare delicious dishes, discuss all things gastro, giving the opportunity to ask them any burning questions you have.
Over in the Home and Gift Hall, discerning buyers looking for something special can head to 13th Avenue in the Lowland Hall.
