IT was very much a ladies day at the Lanarkshire Holstein Club's annual showmanship and calf show, at Lanark Auction Mart, when Alison Hunter, West Tarbrax, Shotts, not only won the showmanship but also produced the champion calf.

Alison, who initially won the senior showmanship and supreme overall, led the calf section with the home-bred heifer, Letterkenny Soloman Flo, a nine-month-old by Walnutlawn Soloman ET, bred from the VG87-2yr Fezior Deman Flo.

Judge Richard Graham, Cadgill, Canonbie, found his reserve showperson in young Amy Weatherup, Parkend, Crossgates, with the family's calf, Parkend RT Florida Eileen, winning the blue and white sash amongst the calves. This 10-month-old bred from Parkend Alexander, is sired by Berryholme Florida.

There was a double win for Andrew Neilson, Overside, Strathaven, too when he won honourable mention in the showmanship and with the calf Overside Abbot B Amanda, a yearling heifer by Willsbro Abbot, bred from Overside Baxter Amanda.

Also presented was the Tam Allan Perpetual Trophy for the highest placed junior members out of 16 qualifying this year. This is based on the accumulation points from various stockjudging competitions and showmanship and saw joint winners with Zoe Bryson, Carnduff and Eva Baillie, Covington, taking first equal. Joint third were Mark Bryson, Carnduff and Finlay Baillie, Covington.
