Young Mark Robertson, scored a hat-trick at the Rising Stars show of exhibition calves at Thainstone, producing his third overall Young Farmers' champion and supreme overall for the family farm based at Easter Fodderletter, Tomintoul.
Going all the way was his heifer champion, Dance Monkey, a seven-month-old red Limousin bred by Gordon Cameron, Acharacle. She was bought at Thainstone in October for £1600 and is by Maraiscote Lethario and out of a Limousin cross heifer.
"She's a great calf with so much potential about her," said the judge, Michael Durno. "She's a really well balanced calf with a great top on her – a real natural calf."
Adding to the celebrations, father Michael, grand-father William and Michael’s brother, Scott, also produced the open champion and reserve overall in Bugsy – the first time the family has brought out the champion and reserve in the six-year history of the Rising Stars. Bugsy, a nine-month-old bullock bred by Craig Malone, Pitcairn, was bought alongside his mother, a Limousin cross cow at a beef breeding sale at UA Stirling in May. This black calf by Ronick Jojo, has already made his mark in the show ring, taking the junior bullock championship at the Stars of the Future, last month.
