The Limousin heifer, Wilodge Sapphire, was the jewel in the crown at the pedigree calf show staged on the Friday night of LiveScot, when securing the inter-breed title, in only the second time of having pedigree classes.

The judge, Sally Lloyd, Stonycroft, Herefordshire, found her supreme in this September, 2021-born Limousin heifer. She is a daughter of Ironstone Brandy and out of Wilodge Littlegem and was shown by Ali Jackson for Christine Williams and Paul Tippets, Lodge Hill Farm, Shifnal, Shropshire.

The Limousin reserve was Andrew Weir's Castlemill Tia Maria, from Castlecary Mill, Stirling. Having stood reserve overall junior champion at Stars of the Future, at Stirling, this January-born heifer is a daughter of Carrickmore Maximum and bred from Coalhall Onemoretime.

The reserve inter-breed champion, though, was the British Blue winner, Solway View Rhubarb, from Kevin Watret, Dumfries. Having stood pedigree calf inter-breed at Agri Expo, this heifer is the first crop of calves from the 27,000gns Solway View Odin, and out of Solway View Milly, which won the Royal Highland and the Welsh shows in 2019.

The runner up in this section was Jean Mackay’s Harelaw Star, from Auchenairney, Kirkmichael, which is a January-born heifer calf by Henlli Wishmaster.

In the all new pairs competition, selected by all the breed judges, seven duos battled it out for the supreme – with the British Blue breed clinching the top award, made up of the reserve breed champion, Jean Mackay’s Harelaw Star and Kelly Blackwood and Duncan Davidson’s Blackstane Supreme, a February-born bull calf, Blackstane Supreme out of Tenace De La Praule.

From the Galloways, it was the heifer, Princess Marlyn of 3G, from Dennis Gall and John Graham, that took the top ticket. This September, 2021-born calf is a daughter of Strathurr Yogi and out of Kalinka 2159 of Romesbeoch.

Nerys 3566 of Romesbeoch stood runner up in this section for Jim and Selina Ross, Romesbeoch, Shawhead, Dumfries. Their February-born heifer calf is by Penninghame Windward.

Richard and Carol Rettie, Dyke Farm, Falkirk, had a highly successful show, taking the Aberdeen-Angus championship and Beef Shorthorn champion and reserve.

Leading the Angus was their July, 2021-born bull calf, Retties Le Rendezvous. A result of the sire, Duncanziemere Edwin on to Wall Lady Ruth, he stood reserve senior male at Stars of the Future a few weeks ago.

The Beef Shorthorn senior champion from Stars of the Future, Aberdona Rock Candy, took the top ticket in that breed. A daughter of Tamhorn Glen this July, 2021-born heifer is bred from Aberdona Rothes Malteser. Its stable mate, Aberdona Rothes Rainbow, took the blue and white rosette home – she's by the same sire.

The Retties duo also brought out the Aberdeen-Angus reserve champion and Charolais champion for Brailes Livestock. First was the Angus runner up, Brailes Black Bruce, a February-born bull calf by Blelack Playboy.

The Charolais champion came in the form of Gower Sequin – September, 2021-born heifer got by semen from Hatenon, and bred from Gower Insignia.

Keeping it in the family, Jamie Rettie, Stirling, received the reserve Charolais title with Trossachs Superman, December-born bull by Thrunton Equity.

The sole Hereford came in the form of the February-born bull, Craigdhu 1 Will It Do from Margaret Galbraith, Millmoor, Lanark. A Gouldingpoll a Stockman daughter, he is out of Craigdhu 1 Morag, and stood reserve junior male champion at Agri Expo at Carlisle.

There was plenty of cheer in the Simmental ring for Gavin Brown, Springfield, Penicuik, when he secured both the champion and reserve honours. His champion was the July, 2021-born bull, Springfield Moss, which stood senior Simmental champion at Stars of the Future at Stirling. This boy is the result of the sire, Islavale Jabba onto the dam, Cleenagh Eliza.

His runner up, Springfield Niagara, is April-born and is a son of Islavale Jabba.
