Regular winners, Michael Robertson and son Mark, Fodderletter Farms, Tomintoul, won the Rising Stars championship for the second year in succession, with a half brother to the 2022 supreme, Maui.

The father and son duo who took the tri-colour at this event for a fifth time, led the way with Brewdog, a nine-month-old home-bred bullock that stood reserve at the Agri-Expo at Carlisle. He is sired by the Limousin stock bull, Beachmont Pacman, an 8000gns purchase at Carlisle and out of Bucks Fizz, a home-bred British Blue cross dam that bred last year’s champion.

The Robertsons who run 80 commercial cattle and a further 20 pedigree females, had two cattle forward for the event to include last year’s Rising Stars champion, which went on to win the reserve overall in the prime cattle section the following day.

Finlay Hunter (15), Wester Cairnhill, Culsalmond, topped a strong Young Farmers’ section, taking the tri-colour with Ziggy, a 5.5-month-old Limousin cross bullock. He is an AI son of Johnston Premier – a sire that produced Andrew Gammie’s Royal Northern Spring Show champion, Toyboy, in February. Equally notable, the dam, a British Blue cross cow bought from Darren Irvine after being shown at the Spring Show, has bred three top calves with the first cashed enablishing Mr Hunter to establish his up and coming Sunset Suffolk flock. The second calf, a heifer has been retained for breeding.
