Glenrothes-based Suffolk breeder Stewart Lathangie, scored a hat-trick at a glorious Fife Show, landing a third inter-breed sheep title and a second overall champion of champions award.

Taking all the plaudits was a previously unshown gimmer by Limestone Marksman bred from a ewe by Limestone Limited Edition. She is one of the 45 breeding females in the flock which last took the supreme here in 2012.

Notably, Mr Lathangie also produced the reserve Suffolk with the home-bred two-shear ram, Pyeston Phoenix, another by Limited Edition, but bred from the flock’s inter-breed sheep winner here, last year.

Commenting on her choice of supreme sheep, judge Pamela Nicol, Doldy said: “She’s a great example of her breed – a good upstanding gimmer and so well balanced.”

The Suffolk was placed champion of champions against the supreme beef, dairy cattle and horse winners alongside the commercial champion, by a panel of five inter-breed judges – all of whom, like the various sections, were female – on a points basis.

Inter-breed beef judge, Amy Laird, Cambwell, Biggar, found her top winner in the Limousin supreme Beath Tianna, a 27-month-old heifer shown by Beth Thomson, Hilton of Beath, Kelty.

Reserve overall beef here last year, this Bangtidy Notorious-sired heifer out of Homebyres Pilley, stood a head of the Charolais champion, a heifer from Andrew Hornall, Falleninch, Stirling.

“The Limousin caught my eye as soon as I saw her for her conformation, shape and style and the Charolais is also a great, meaty animal,” said Ms Laird.

It was an equally memorable day for the Thomsons as they not only won the champion and reserve honours amongst the Limousins but also their first inter-breed beef in 20plus years exhibiting here.

It was a roll-over year amongst the dairy cattle as the Wilson family’s Holstein, Billincoat Secretariat Veronese Ex93-3 from Carskerdo, Cupar, was back to claim the tri-colour. No stranger to the lime-light, this third calver by All Nure Secretariat, out of Billincoat Veronese Ex91, was champion of champions at West Fife and champion at Kinross, last year.
