Youngsters travelled from far and wide to attend an Aberdeen Angus Youth Development Programme Day at Ballindalloch Home Farms, Banffshire, where they not only had the chance to learn about cattle handling and judging, but also picked up a few tips of the trade from the professionals.

The programme which is open to young people of all backgrounds and with an enthusiasm for all breeds of cattle, is looking for more attendees for another three events still to be staged in Scotland and the north of England.

On Sunday July 7, John Steel of the West Drums herd based at Allanbank House, Allanton, Duns will be opening his farm gates for a YDP training shop, which will be followed on Saturday, July 13, with a similar event at Northumberland College, Kirkley, Newcastle upon Tyne.

Keith Rennie, Fiddlehall, Falkland, Cupar, hosts the last of the training events in Scotland on Saturday, August 10.

Workshops on cattle clipping, showmanship, and stock judging will be staged by Richard Rettie, Dougie Macbeth, Paul Westaway and Stephanie Dick.
