Autumn kicked into gear for dairy breeders selling at the Borderway Dairy Day, at Carlisle, where more than 400 cattle changed hands with a top price of £2250 paid on four occasions.

First at that price was the Holstein heifer, Balcurvie Bookel Kate from Balcurvie Holsteins, Windygate, Fife, purchased by Thomas Forsyth, Baltier, Isle of Whithorn. This two-year-old is by Champion Altabookel.

Witherslack Delta-Lambda Martha, a three-year-old Holstein cow in milk from Wayne Inman, Strickland Hill, Witherslack, Grange Over Sands, sold for the same money. She is by Farnear Delta-Lambda, out of Witherslack Unix Martha, and sold giving 45kg to Llew Lloyd, Crundale, Haverfordwest.

The British Friesian heifer, Nerewater Gladlass 42, from RW and J Bell, Saltcoats, Sirkbride, Wigton, also made £2250 selling to Alastair and Susan Martin, Bankend, Dumfries. She is by Nerewater Jackpot.

The Stevensons from Kirminnoch, Dunragit, Stranraer, also took £2250 for Stevenson’s Bunty 170, a freshly calved Ayrshire heifer by Stevenson's Prime Time, purchased by Messrs Beard, Roweltown, Carlisle.

John Baillie's Holstein dispersal from Branchalburn, Wishaw, peaked at £2200 for a fresh three-year-old by Marquis, which sold to Alan Hutton, Ayr.
