AT C and D Auction Marts' weekly sale, the 1182 lambs forward sold to a top of £130 for Suffolks from Netherhall and 270p per kg from Catslackburn, to average 254.9p.

The 393 cast ewes sold to £138 for Suffolks from Baltier, with tups to £120 for Texels from Wellhill.

Stirling (Cale)

Trade remained firm on the week at Caledonian Marts’ weekly primestock sale, where hoggs balanced out at 244.37p with a top of 305p paid for Texels from J Smith, Bankhead, Milnathort or £158 for more of the same from F and H McNicol, Blindburn.

Cast ewes sold to £179 for a pen of Texels from E Robertson, Skeoch.

Stirling (UA)

United Auctions had forward 4126 prime lambs which sold to average 237.90p, with trade reaching heights of £140 for Beltex from Doune Farms and to 313p for more of the same from Greenfield.

West Carse led the 1415 cast ewes with Texels making £243, whilst rams sold to £115 for Texels from Hill of Errol.

Thainstone

Aberdeen and Northern Marts sold 1760 prime sheep, where the 1473 lambs sold to average 242p having peaked at 267.1p for 38kg Beltex from Honeyneuk, Maud and £140 for 66kg Texels from 76 Logie Drive, Crimond.

The 287 cast sheep levelled at £96.55 having sold to £181.50 for continentals from Logie Durno, Pitcaple.

Longtown

Trade was buoyant at C and D Auction Marts’ first prime sheep sale of the year, where 5734 lambs sold to £166 for Texels from Highfield Farming, Knock, Duns or 304p per kg for Blue Texels from Cottage Farm, to level at 240.8p with an SQQ of 243.9p.

The 3876 cast sheep forward were topped by Texel ewes selling at £265 and £255 from Highfield Farming, Knock, Duns, with rams to £158 for Suffolks from Cottage Farm.

Darlington

Darlington Farmers Auction Mart saw 2327 head of sheep forward for their weekly sale to include 1846 prime lambs and 481 cast sheep.

Lambs averaged 241p with an SQQ of 245p. Top price per kg was 346p paid for four Beltex from W Ramsay and Sons, Wingate or £145 per head paid on three occasions.

First at this price were five Texels weighing 56kg from Richard Bailes, Cole Hill Farm, Elwick which were then twice matched by trios of Beltex from the Askwiths of Crook.

A leaner show of ewes averaged £82 with cast sheep peaking at £162 for a Charollais tup from PJ Tindale, Shadforth.

Ewes were topped by heavy Mules from WA Wardman, Yearby at £128.

St Boswells

Harrison and Hetherington sold prime bullocks and heifers to level at 273p and 279p, respectively.

Penston and Crosshall led the bullocks at £1943.20 and 298p per kg, whilst heifers sold to £1997.12 from Upper Nisbet and 326p from Whitrighill.

In the cast cow ring, Rumbleton topped the trade at £1691.58 and 249p, to average 188p.

Amongst the 815 hoggs, prices peaked at £146 for Suffolks from Cortleferry or 300p for Beltex from Faughhill, to cash in at 246p.

Cast sheep reached a top of £177 for a Bluefaced Leicester tup from WH Sharp and Son, Newbigging Walls and a Cheviot-bred ewe from Over Blainslie Farm, per Ian MacDougal was donated to the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation which achieved £75.

Lanark

All classes of prime sheep sold well at Lawrie and Symington’s weekly sale, where the 1746 prime hoggs were topped at £148 for Texels from S Renwick, Glenrath and to 287p for more of the same from Messrs Jackson, Boat and a Beltex from Messrs Hammond, Auchenbart.

The sale averaged 242p per kg with an SQQ of 245p.

The sale of 510 cast ewes and rams peaked at £220 for Texel from S Renwick, Glenrath and to £87 for Blackfaces from Mrs Cameron, Crow Wood Cottage.

A Texel from Dechmont led the rams at £142.

Ayr

Craig Wilson Marts sold six prime cattle to balance out at 290.7p, with trade peaking at 300p or £1815 for a Limousin heifer from CA Smith, North Boig.

Beef cows sold to £1660 for a Shorthorn from JSM Dunn, High Woodston and to 210.7p for a Limousin from JL Young, Haddockston. Dairy-bred entries were topped by a Holstein from J Brewster, Boclair, which made £1300 and to 219.1p for a Montbeliard from R Ferguson, Ravenston Mains.

The 2101 lambs were topped at £142 by Texels from John Young and Son, Castle Mains and to 279.7p for 29 Beltex from W and E Cook, Glendoune, to average 252.3p.

Dingwall

The four prime cattle forward for Highland and Dingwall Marts’ sale, peaked at 273p per kg or £1729.20 for Limousin cross heifers from Cullaird, Scaniport.

The firm also sold 445 prime lambs to average 230.1p with prices peaking at 260.2p for 44kg Beltex crosses from Hillhead, Keith and £120 for a 54kg cross also from Hillhead, Keith.

Feeding sheep sold to £172 for a Texel ewe from Kinnahaird Farm, Contin.

Castle Douglas

On Tuesday, Wallets Marts sold 900 prime hoggs to average 242p with an SQQ of 244.36p.

Top prices were £130.50 and 287.5p paid for Texels from Messrs Hiddleston, Newmains, whilst cast sheep reached £135 for Texel ewes from Messrs Burgess, Maryfield.

Hexham

AT Hexham and Northern Marts' sale, a Charolais cross heifer topped the trade at 269.5p for FT Walton, Flotterton.

Top price per head was £1633.70 from A Hall and Sons, Barker House.

A Limousin cross cow topped the cast trade at 229.5p per kg for TR and EA Milburn, Wallend, with a British Blue from VS Allgood, Nunwick producing the lead price per head at £1657.20.

The 906 hoggs sold to £139 for a Texel cross from A Peart, Woodcroft, whilst six Beltex crosses from E and I Hall and Son, New Houses, sold for the lead price per kg at 280p.

Hawes

Hawes Farmers Auction Mart sold 1849 prime lambs to top at 270p for Texel crosses from AJ and L Hunter, Gunnerside or to £130 for more of the same from T Dent and Son.

Cast sheep peaked at £166 for a Bluefaced Leicester ram from A and TA Blades, Hawes.

Wigton

THE offering of 17 prime cattle sold through Hopes Auction Mart, saw heifers lead the trade at 289.5p for a 659kg Limousin from RE Miller, West Farm, or to £1135.60 paid for a 593kg Swedish Red cross from J and J Messenger, Adamgill.

Bullocks from West Farm led the bullocks at 285.5p or to £1973.16 for a Limousin from Bothel Parks.

Hoggs peaked at £162 and 395.1p for a 41kg Beltex from RL and AR Phillips, Fir Trees Farm with cast ewes to £174 for a Beltex from WL Musgrave and Sons, Cardew Hall Farm, or £166 for Dutch Texels from the Laurels Farm.
