Texels proved the star of the show at a multi-breed show and sale of pedigree sheep at North West Auctions' J36 mart, attracting the majority of lead prices including a new centre high of 4800gns for a gimmer.

The sale which incorporated the North West Texel Breeders' Club show and sale of 112 head, was led by the third prize winner at the pre-sale show from Gordon and David Gray's Tima flock from Sunnycroft, Selkirk. Bred from one of the best female families and sired by Claybury Dunkirk, she sold scanned with twins to Sadlerhead Frank the Tank, to JS Lodge of the Heyworth Lodge flock who also forked out 1700gns for a Hexel Django-sired gimmer from Keith, Allan and Roy Campbell's Cowal flock from Lochgoilhead.

Another gimmer from the Grays made 1200gns selling to Thomas Wilson, Selside.

Judge R Watkins of the Cwmcerrig flock found his champion and reserve Texel winners in the first and second prize ewe hoggs from Myfyr Evans' Rhaeadr flock from Denbigh, Wales, who produced the top four highest priced lots in the section. His champion, a Garngour Envoy II daughter, bred from the same line as Rhaeadar Best of the Best, went on to sell for 4000gns to G Oare, Brynford, Holywell, Flintshire.

Rhaeadr's reserve Texel, by Sportsmans Dare Devil, made 1900gns to Thomas Ayrton of the Ayrtons flock, Lancaster, with his other two ewe hoggs making 1800gns and 1000gns to Mr Ben, Barnard Castle and GR and RA Surtees, Stodday Village, Lancaster, respectively.

Second top price amongst the gimmers was 1800gns, paid for the first prize winner from Procters Farm, Slaidburn, purchased by David Morrison, Dalwyne, Barr. She is sired by Sportsmans Double Diamonds, and changed hands scanned in lamb to Procters Forever.

The second prize winner in the same class from Peter Woof's Stainton flock, Kendal, made 1600gns to Nik Gill, Borrowdale. She is a daughter of Craig Douglas Dancer.

Other breeds reached 3500gns for a Blue Texel gimmer from Stasa Moyse's Saltire flock from Aberdeenshire. Producing a centre breed record here was the pre-sale champion, purchased by the judge, Victoria Bowring, Notts. For her money, she gets Saltire Blue Fancy Fire, which is bred from Saltire Blue Bluebell and sired by Carly's Blue Captain. She sold carrying a single lamb.

The third prize gimmer from the same flock, Saltire Blue Fee Fi Fo Fum, by the same sire but bred from Saltire Blue Beyonce, made 1200gns to Jimmy and Graeme Sinclair, Crookston, Heriot.

Stasa and her partner, Stuart Wood, enjoyed a bumper trade, producing the champion Dutch Spotted, a ewe hogg which went on to sell for 1000gns and the reserve Badger Faced Texel, a gimmer that later made 1400gns to JA Sowerby, Amos Hill, Slaggyford.

They also produced the lead priced Beltex at 1500gns when selling Utopia Des Quatre Vents, an imported ewe carrying a pair to Vickys Gladiator. The buyer was Colin Clemmit of the Cloudy Dale Flock near Leyburn.

Second top price was 1400gns paid for Mike Davis’ Rathbone Emily, a three-year-old Belvoir View Derminator daughter from the flock near Eldroth, Austwick. She sold to Harry Askwith and family of the Askwith flock from Crook, carrying a pair to Bronic Frederick.

The champion and reserve Beltex, both made 1000gns. The former, Mortons Gold Dust, a Ryder Enrique-sired entry from Andrew Morton and family, Lochend, Denny. Their gimmer by Ryder Enrique, and carrying twins to Gyffin Dexter, was knocked down to the judge, Tom Belfield, who runs the Boothlow Flock with his brother, Jack, near Sheen.

The reserve, the second prize gimmer, from Liz and her brother William McAllister's Artnagullion flock from Northern Ireland, which sold to Phil Cockett for the Ingle View flock near Ingleton when carrying a pair to Glenview Goldie. The gimmer is by Airyolland Eejit. .

A quality entry of Badger Face Texels was topped at 2000gns by P Douch's gimmer, Gee Wiz Cappuccino from all the way from Carmarthen. The buyer was AD Little, Morton Cottage, Fencehouses.

Dutch Spotted peaked at1600gns for Ecuador, an imported gimmer carrying twins from IP Jones, Corwen purchased by B Barnes, Hawkin Hall, Middleton, Kirkby Lonsdale, followed by 1400gns for the gimmer, Damson Ester carrying a single from M Rowlandson, Grange Over Sands, selling to AJ and EJ Platt, Flass Lane, Barrow in Furness.

A consignment of pedigree Rouge gimmers and ewes from Ian McConnell, Dumfries, all scanned carrying twins, sold to 450gns, with Dutch Texel from Giles Pyman, Penrith, reaching 580gns and 500gns twice.
